Dame Patience Jonathan storms bank after court unfreezes her account

Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, April 10 stormed the Skye Bank Plc branch in Maitama, Abuja to make cash withdrawal from her unblocked account.

The EFCC lost its case against the former First Lady
Mrs Jonathan’s visit to the bank reportedly follows a fresh order of a Federal High Court in Lagos lifting the order of interim forfeiture placed on her account with the bank.

News men  reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had alleged that the account with over $5 million is a proceed of corruption, but the court ruled against it.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) also reports that the former first lady was at the bank until 4.05 pm when she departed but declined to speak to hordes of reporters who sought to know why she was at the financial house.

A source revealed that while at the bank, Mrs Jonathan briefly met an executive director of the bank while one of her aides, who declined to disclose his name, told newsmen that “everything is okay.”

The judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, had recently set aside the ‘No-Debit Order’ which the EFCC earlier placed on the account on allegations that the money found in it was a proceed of crime.

Reports say she actually wanted to withdraw up to $1 million but got only $100,000 and this forced her to return to the bank where he held a meeting with the top official.

It was learnt that Mrs Jonathan was hindered as the EFCC had procured a stay-of-execution of the judgement and simultaneously filed an appeal against the judgment by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun
