Baring any last-minute change of mind, one time National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is set to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday.
Sheriff is moving over to the ruling party along with his supporters mostly those who were with him in the factional executive of the PDP while he served as National Chairman of the opposition party.
According to multiple sources, Sheriff’s defection is expected to take place at the APC’s secretariat in Abuja by noon.
A senior party operative who confirmed the planned defection said Sheriff would be received by the National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun and other senior officials of the party.
Sheriff, who has been accused as a major financier of Boko Haram terrorist sect, was a member of the APC before defecting to the PDP in 2015.
Sheriff was involved in a near fisticuff with APC leader and former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu, at a party leadership meeting before his defection to the PDP.
Sheriff had met Vice- President, Yemi Osinbajo late last year where he indicated his interest to return to the party.
